The best known behavior that shows that the African Gray Parrots have high level intelligence is the ability they have to mimic human speech. The parrots have the ability to find the food even without being given clue of the location of the food.This is a behavior that only human and apes were thought to posses.
In another study to tested the reasoning ability of the parrots by shaking empty boxes and also other boxes full of food in order for the parrots to hear the rattling of the snacks. The parrots were allowed to figure out what the sound in one box meant. The parrots demonstrated the ability to figure out that there was food inside the box with sound and that lack of sound in the other box meant that there was no food. This showed that the African gray parrots have the ability to reason to make such kind of challenging decisions. It suggests that the parrots have a bit of understanding of causality and can use this ability to reason about their environment.

The intelligence possessed by the African gray parrots makes it possible for them to be trained on how to do something things. They have the capacity to learn how to trim their nail by being trained by the owners. The African gray parrots have the ability to learn through positive reinforcement just like humans. They learn a lot of things through step to step training. The parrots also learn to respect the owners and show dissatisfaction if they are irritated. Their capacity to communicate with the owners is as a result of their superior intelligence.
