UPDATE: Hope is enjoying a European adventure, as she is now fostering with one of our volunteers who is living temporarily in the Netherlands. Her foster mom reports that Hope made is across the Atlantic (as well as Dutch customs) like a champ, behaving beautifully throughout the entire journey. While she still has some trust issues (particularly with new people) she is making great strides and doing so in record time. We are extremely proud of Hopie and the way that she is rising to the occasion! Sadly, shortly before her departure, Hopie was discovered to have multiple mammary tumors. These were surgically removed, biopsied, and discovered to be malignant. Her foster mom will continue to monitor her carefully and we will hope for a good outcome in the months to come. As the margins were clean and the tumors were small, we have decided to take no further surgical measures for the time being. In the meantime, Hopie is enjoying life in the Netherlands, where she particularly loves her long daily walks in the forest. She is discovering that dogs are dogs wherever one goes ... irrespective of country, they all speak WOOF. Hello there, here's Hoping you can help me. My name is Hope. I am a 3-5 year old purebred female Cocker Spaniel. I have been through rather a bad time lately, having first been hit by a car (following which I was brought to Animal Care and Control of NYC), and then endured a lengthy recovery time. Both my rear legs were injured when I was thrown by the car, but nothing was damaged beyond repair. I just needed cage rest for quite a long time in order that my fractures could be allowed to heal. I am up and running now much like my former self. It is true, however, that a near death experience changes one's perspective on life. I have been re-evaluating the things that are important to me and feel it is essential that I settle down now with a secure and stable family who can help me overcome the pain of my past. I have some trust issues with people that I will need to work on going forward... sadly, those who should have cared for me in my prior life let me down quite badly. Rescue assures me that there is a great home with loving people waiting for me somewhere, I have only to maintain my Hope and a bit of patience until the stars align. Despite my unfortunate accident, I am now a healthy girl who has been spayed, microchipped, is current on all shots and has tested negative for heartworm. I will be professionally groomed before adoption and will go home with a new leash and collar.
